Blog: Young People at TechResort

You might know us for helping adults – but it’s young people at our core…

Lots of people know us for helping adults with devices and skills, in a community setting.  This is something we’re immensely proud of but what made it possible is our work for and with young people.

It starts with our informal, creative digital sessions for young people aged 8 – 12.  This can include things like Lego Robots, 3D printing, coding, animation and we’re always on the look-out for new things to try.

We also offer work experience (WEX) to young people from Year 10 onward.

WEX offers the chance to explore what sort of future careers young people may be interested in.  More than that, it offers students a glimpse of what it’s like to take responsibility for completing tasks and to develop important, transferable skills.

We’re a small company so working with us can be a bit less intense which is particularly helpful for some students who might find noisier settings a bit overwhelming.

Most of our staff started with us on a work experience placement, or as volunteers.  Many have neurodiverse traits so they know, very well, what challenges that can bring and they bring all their talents to share with children and adults alike.

We believe it’s really important for young people to get paid work as a stepping stone to their first full time job. So, when we have scope to recruit new young staff, we always prioritise those who have worked with us before.

As a result of all this, our young people are the backbone of TechResort – and they’re really the reason we can help over 1000 adults a year build digital skills and confidence.

If you or a young person you know would like or needs to complete work experience, please contact us!
