Blog: Town Hall Move – Update

We’re settling into our new home, and starting some projects…

We’re really starting to feel at home at Eastbourne Town Hall.

Other organisations are starting to move in and it’s lovely to see more members of the community coming in and using this beautiful building.

Our twice-weekly drop-ins are now exclusively at the Town Hall and we’ve been delighted that clients have made the move with us and are enjoying a more comfortable space.

As a big old building, with very thick walls, the Town Hall behaves differently than our small shop unit when it comes to temperature changes.  We’re trying to find out whether our rooms – and especially the drop-in room – are protected from the worst of the heatwaves we’ve been experiencing recently.

So, our resident engineer has dug in our boxes of stuff to rig up something to measure the air temperature and quality frequently throughout the day, whether we’re in the room or not.  It then uploads that data to a file held in our web-hosting space.

All this means that we can analyse the data remotely to see what it tells us.

We’ve been using Raspberry Pi computers for many years, they’re great for pulling together quick projects using real-world sensing or cameras.

We’ll add more information about this project on a separate page as we learn more.  Meanwhile, if you see one of our little sensor boxes in its Lego case, please leave it where it is, it’s doing an important job.
