Blog: Building Move Progress

We know we’ve been quiet but we’ve been busy behind the scenes…

We thought it was time to give everyone a bit of an update about our move to the Town Hall.  Despite the radio-silence, we’re working hard behind the scenes.

Having so much more space to fill well, we always knew we’d need to add extra furniture, fittings and fixtures along with additional bits of equipment here and there.

We know the importance of a comfortable and pleasant environment to our staff and all our clients.  You can’t effective work, or learn new skills if the place where you’re doing that is cold, hot, noisy or uncomfortable.  We also know that lots of people don’t feel relaxed around a lot of change.

We’ve been very grateful to get some financial support from 100% Digital Leeds; Balfour Beatty Living Places  (who manage the East Sussex Highways contract) and  the Meads Fund, administered by Sussex Community Foundation.

This has allowed us to purchase a few vital bits of furniture and equipment

We’ve also spend a fair bit of time looking around the space we’re moving to and seeing bits and pieces that have been left behind, which we think we can give a new lease of life to.  This means we’ll reduce waste and the cost of buying everything new.  This complements our work in digital device refurbishment with additional wombling skills.

So far we’ve renovated a desk and found some scaffolding legs to add to a huge, beautiful old table top so we can turn it into a workbench.  Next on the list are some old metal cabinets no longer needed by EBC Estates and kindly moved to our basement area by a couple of the team – we’re currently working on finding shelf supports and using the cabinets to keep our refurbishment space tidy.

But it’s not just the behind-the-scenes spaces which are important.

We’ve been able to add more of our signature bright tables and new chairs to our drop-in space which will be warm in winter yet cool in summer and feel cosy, yet spacious.

We’re also making the most of being able to have a dedicated staff room by putting tables and chairs in the kitchen to make it more comfortable.
